Lead Conversations that Build Trust
We suggest you share these clear reminders at the beginning of any civic conversation:
We’re here to learn, not to debate.
• Everyone participates at their comfort level (or chooses not to share at all).
• We speak from our own experiences.
• We listen fully before responding.
• We stay curious rather than judgmental.
• We avoid trying to persuade or convince each other.
These expectations help keep the room focused and friendly.
Opening Script (Just read this as written)
“Thanks for joining. Our goal today is to explore helpful civic information in a calm, respectful way. We’re not here to debate or change anyone’s mind…just to learn together. Feel free to share if you want, or simply listen. If things start to feel tense at any point, I’ll pause us so we can reset and stay aligned with our purpose.”
